I have walked this creek many times, never once seeing a rattle snake. I even chose it for a botany project in college long ago &#8211; chronicling the regrowth of plants after a brush fire.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-199\" title=\"sign\" src=\"http:\/\/www.infinitedigress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/sign.jpg\" alt=\"sign\" width=\"320\" height=\"240\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.infinitedigress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/sign.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.infinitedigress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/sign-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 320px) 100vw, 320px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Rattlesnake Creek is an easy day hike and we met many people on the trail. We had the creek bed to ourselves, though, as we bouldered up the hillside. We came back on the trail that rises high on the north side and I was glad we did. Not only did we get the majestic view of the Santa Barbara channel, we\u00a0encountered\u00a0an amazing number of wild flowers in bloom.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-198\" style=\"border-style: initial; border-color: initial;\" title=\"flower1\" src=\"http:\/\/www.infinitedigress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/flower1.jpg\" alt=\"flower1\" width=\"200\" height=\"176\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We had seen many on the way up, but even more on the way back. I counted 16 different varieties in bloom &#8211; more than I have ever seen in many years of hiking these mountains. I only know the names of a few.
